Innovation Blossoms: Highlights from the MTI East Coast Pitch Event
April 30, 2024

Much like the iconic cherry trees in Washington DC, these innovations blossomed within the competitive arena of start-up companies competing for a coveted spot in the 2024 MedTech Innovator cohort. Cannon Quality Group’s Director of Innovation, Jeff Flint, was honored to lend his extensive MedTech experience as a judge of the East Coast innovators.

Handpicked from a pool of over 1400 applicants, chosen start-ups had the opportunity to receive invaluable feedback from MTI’s strategic partners, investors, regulatory agencies, and our own experts like Jeff. Among them, some were considered for MTI’s Heart and Brain Track and the Military Medicine Track. (1)

Having worked with many clients in the cardiovascular medical device sector, Jeff was really excited to hear from the American Heart Association’s Chief Clinical Science Officer, Mitchell Elkind. The discussion provided valuable insights and strategic perspectives.

Fascinated by the unique ideas and technologies presented, Jeff was especially impressed with:

  • Second Heart Assist: Created an inventive arterial inline pump to increase blood flow to the kidneys.Their Second Heart Assist platform of devices offers alternatives to treat the symptoms of congestive heart failure. (2)
  • Somnics Health: Invented a negative flow alternative to the CPAP resolving some of the major issues found with conventional CPAP machines like portability, battery capacity, and cleanability. The iNAP One Sleep Therapy System improves patient adherence to treatment regimes. (3)
  • Surgical Automations: Utilizes robot and scanning technology to navigate the colon and identify anomalies that are difficult to see with the naked eye. The Automated Robotic Endoluminal Navigation (AREN) incorporates AI to ensure all areas are visualized. (4)
  • Arsenal Medical: Developing a novel method for stemming brain hemorrhage or persistent blood leakage leading to hematoma on the brain. NeoCastTM biomaterial enables deep penetration of target vessels minimizing risk of embolization. (5)

Jeff observed, “I was really impressed by the amazing ideas on display. Seeing the passion and creativity displayed by these MedTech innovators really got me excited about the future of healthcare innovation.”
